Principal  & Staff of SBHS

I just thought it was appropriate to congratulate the senior boys who were at the Invercargill Airport on Thursday last week to welcome home Richard Tohairki as a World Touch Rugby Champion.

My family and I were also there to support Richard.  All of your students were very well behaved, well groomed and what an amazing haka they performed.

As a mother of 2 primary aged boys, (who were present at the airport) it was nice to see such great teenage role models. My 2 sons were talking about your students all the way home in the car.

Well done Boys’ High.

Kind regards

Shelley Beker

Dear Ian

Invercargill Bluelight recently took 19 young people to walk the keplar track. We had the following student from Southland Boys’ to accompany us:

Sam Anderson

Sam was a credit to himself and to your school. The other supervisors and I were really impressed with the way he gave every day his best – even when the weather wasn’t playing nice! We were also really proud of his behaviour at the huts, and had some really great comments made to us about the group as a whole by other tamper’s.

We look forward to being able to take Southland Boys’ students with us on future Bluelight activities.

Regards Cushla O’Neill

Kia ora, Kia orana, Talofa Lava, Malo e leielei, Bula vinaka, Taloha ni- Warm Pasifika greetings to you all.

On behalf of the Tautai Arts Trust and the Murihiku Maori and Pasifika Cultural Trust we would like to thank you for allowing your students to be involved in the ‘Fresh Horizons’ workshops held on 18-20 April at the University of Otago, College of Education.

The students involved from your school were:

  • Redcliffe Peseta
  • Robert Peseta
  • Neihana Kahukura
  • Keanu Kahukura
  • Metua Aerenga

We were fortunate to have tutors of the highest calibre.

  • Victor Rodger – Fullbright recipient, writer in residence and screenwriter
  • Bridget Inder – Masters in Fine Art and Printmaker
  • Chris Chateris – Contemporary Sculptor
  • Johnny Penisula – Master Carver and ‘God Father’ of New Zealand contemporary Pasifika Art.

This was an opportunity offered to all year 11-13 students who are of Pasifika heritage. It was a wonderful experience for all those involved.

The students were a credit to themselves, their families and their schools. They were hard working, creative and an absolute pleasure to have as part of the workshops. They willingly gave up 3 days of their school holidays to be involved in the programme.

The students produced some outstanding work. The drama written has been recorded on Radio Southland and we hope that some of the sculptures and prints will be displayed at your school and will be entered in this year’s Polyfest Art Exhibition. Entries close for this end of term 2.
