Welcome

Principal Ian Baldwin

Southland Boys' High School has developed a celebrated reputation over the last 127 years as a traditional school with a contemporary heart. What attracts students to SBHS is this combination of old and new and the school motto, Not for school but for life we are learning, which is firmly embedded in all aspects of school life.

There is a deliberate emphasis on literacy (reading, writing and oracy) and numeracy. A wide curriculum has been designed with boys in mind and is offered so that all boys can achieve excellence at their level. Education is about success across a wide range of activities. A visit to the school will reveal the wealth of facilities and opportunities available in sport, music, debating, technology, dance and drama as well as in academic endeavours.

We aspire to and have achieved a reputation for being advocates for boys and boys' education. We have deep respect for our heritage and traditions but at the same time are continually looking ahead to innovations in curriculum planning and delivery and technologies to enhance our programmes.

Please feel welcome to visit our school and see it in action.
