Re: Early School Closure – 1.05 pm Friday 2 June
On Friday 2 June 2017, Southland Boys’ High School will be closing early at 1.05 p.m. This is so that staff can attend a professional development training session with Chris Bowden. Chris Bowden is a lecturer in the Faculty of Education at Victoria University, Wellington. He lectures in child, adolescent and lifespan development and in youth issues.
The staff professional learning will focus on:
§ identifying and supporting vulnerable students to encourage help seeking, coping, resiliency, using a strengths and solutions focussed approach
Chris Bowden will also be holding parent evenings in Invercargill, Gore and Winton which will focus on the following topics:
§ knowing your teen – connections, communication and caring
§ recognising warning signs
§ supporting young people – tips and strategies – dos and don’ts
§ talking to teens and dealing with push back
§ solutions focussed approach to helping teens develop good coping skills
§ building resiliency
At present we do not have dates or times for these meetings, but we will let you know as soon as they have been confirmed.
