Whether in the traditional activities of rugby, cricket, and rowing or in the more contemporary disciplines of cycling, and duathlon, Southland Boys’ get involved. The desire of students to represent their school is evident in the high levels of participation in teams and competitions.

Southland Boys’ has a big focus on Athletics. We hold both a fun Sports Day in which all students are encouraged to participate and then a Sports Day at Surrey Park where the more serious athletes compete. Following on from this event, boys compete at a Southland level and then possibly Otago/Southland level.

Southland Boys’ offers rugby from Year 9. Yr 7 & 8 boys will continue to play Club rugby until this level. For any enquiries related to SBHS rugby please call 03 211 3003.
Trapshooting and Smallbore Rifle Shooting are two options for boys interested in this discipline. Mr Ian Welsh is the Teacher in Charge of Smallbore and Trapshooting. Ring 211 3003 and ask for the Sports Office for any enquiries.
Southland Boys’ has a strong Softball following.

Waterpolo is available at both junior and senior level. Boys are also invited to participate in interschools with this discipline. Teacher in charge of Junior team is Miss McSoriley.
