The Southland Touch U18 mixed team are National Champions!
Held Christchurch over the weekend in very hot conditions, the team played some outstanding touch. The mixed team included Rico and Mika Muliaina, Thomas Spain, Justin Shaw, Jordan O'Connell, Nick Ellenden, Preston Evans, Jak Morton and Cody Stevens - all from Southland Boys' High School.
The team was the only unbeaten team after the round robin, winning 6 and drawing 3. Waikato was the team they faced in the final. Down 4/2 just before the break the team had worked hard both in attack and defense. Tied up 5 all, with only a minute and a half on the clock and on weary legs they were looking for some magic. They found it in the form of Mika Muliaina who cut Waikato in two and scored the match winner with seconds remaining.
A fantastic team effort throughout the whole weekend. Congratulations boys!
