South Island Taekwondo Championships

On June 10, Mason Steel and Brookyln McCullough-Clingin travelled to Christchurch to compete in the South Island Taekwondo Championships.

Mason competed in the youth over 50kg section, competing extremely well and in the final, which was the best of three rounds, he won Gold. Mason was nervous at the start of the match and let his opponent attack him, before becoming the aggressor and dominating the fight, winning in two rounds 4/1 and 7/0.

Brooklyn competed in the 42kg to 47kg Black Belt cadet competition, fighting well and getting through to the final. In the final he started well and got some good kicks in scoring some valuable points. As the round developed his opponent outscored him with some kicks to the head. The second round saw Brooklyn again get some good shots in, however his opponent was very flexible and outscored him. A silver medal. Brooklyn is looking to gain his Black Belt by Christmas this year.

Congratulations to you both, a fantastic effort.
