Secondary School Sports Awards

Success at the 2023 Southland Secondary School Sports Awards

On Monday 30 October, Kiseki Fifita was crowned the Southland Secondary School Senior Sports Person of the Year for 2023 for rugby.

To add to the triumph, the Southland Boys' High School First XV was named the Southland Secondary School Team of the Year! Captain Gregor Rutledge and Vice-Captain Rico Muliaina collected this award on behalf of the team.

Alex Crosbie (multisport), Magnus Jamieson (cycling) and Fynn Mitchell (multisport), along with Kiseki Fifita, were named as finalists in the Senior Sports Person of the Year.

Old Boy Sam Riley was also honoured by Southland Boys' High School for his contribution to sport. Sam was a pupil at SBHS from 1988 to 1992. As an Old Boy Sam has given back to the school in countless ways. Sam has coached and managed rugby and cricket teams ranging from our juniors to our First teams, and was our project manager in the refurbishment of the Cricket pavilion and the upgrade of the Cricket practice nets. Sam was one of the guiding forces around the First Cricket Elevens latest tour to Australia in 2022. Along with others Sam helps coordinate our Golf fundraising Day, which over the years has raised  thousands of dollars for the school so the boys have the opportunity to be the best they can be.

The best way to describe Sam is that he 'just gets the job done' without fuss or fanfare. Sam, thank you for all you have done. We are so appreciative.
