Mr. Buick's journey in the arts began in the early 1990s, and since then, he has been a cornerstone of the southern creative scene. His involvement with the Invercargill Musical Theatre (IMT) and the Invercargill Repertory Society has been nothing short of transformative. Mr. Buick has dedicated countless hours as a musical director, performer, musician, and mentor, always going above and beyond to ensure the success of every production.

His exceptional musical talent and unwavering commitment have earned him accolades, including the Otago Southland Theatre Award for Best Musical Direction in 2015 and 2020. These awards are a testament to his skill and dedication, but they only scratch the surface of his contributions.

Mr. Buick's impact extends beyond the stage. As a teacher at New River Primary School, he developed a music programme that empowered all teachers to enrich their students' lives through music. His influence has shaped the careers of many emerging musicians and actors in Invercargill, fostering a new generation of talent.

In the late 2000s, Mr. Buick played a pivotal role in the ILT Sing Out festival, a massed choir event for Southland primary schools. His efforts ensured the festival's survival by securing a major sponsor, demonstrating his commitment to nurturing the arts at every level.

Mr. Buick's humility and dedication are truly inspiring. He has always viewed his work as part of the course, never seeking recognition but always giving his best. We celebrate not just his achievements but the positive impact he has had on countless lives, especially our students at Southland Boys' High School.

Mr. Buick, your passion, talent, and generosity have enriched our school and community in ways that words cannot fully express. We are beyond proud to see you honoured with the King's Service Medal. Your legacy in the performing arts will continue to inspire and uplift us all.

Congratulations, Mr. Buick, and thank you for everything you have done for us.
